Exam Results at the Medical School – We now have the final exam results at the UPC Medical School. In the Belgian – and now Congo – university system students are permitted to retake exams in October if they failed in June. At our board meeting in Princeton we heard from Dr. Mampunza that the medical school exam results in June were very encouraging. We now have the final results of both exam sessions. 192 passed of the original 229 students admitted the prep year in October 2006. That’s an 84% success rate! This is much higher than at the other departments of law and business where the success rate runs at 40 to 50%. Again this year, there were many applications to enter the new preparation year of medical school. Out of 860 applicants, 250 were interviewed and 200 admitted. So now for the year 2007-08 UPC medical school has 200 students in the prep year (high school science review and accelerated English courses), and 192 students in first year pre-med (called 1er graduat at UPC). This news comes joyously on the heels of the news of Germany’s intention to fund construction of the first wing of the medical school building.
